The Henna Wars

Nishat is trying to hold onto both her family and her sense of self after coming out does not bring the acceptance she hoped for. At school, a business competition gives her a chance to build something around the henna art she loves. That opportunity becomes complicated when Flávia, a girl Nishat is drawn to, enters a competing henna business. Attraction now sits alongside questions of cultural ownership, rivalry and fairness. The two girls’ growing connection cannot remain separate from those tensions. This coming-of-age romance follows Nishat through the overlapping demands of family, school and first love as she works out which compromises she can make without losing what matters to her.
