Hani and Ishu’s Guide to Fake Dating
2021
The story
Hani’s friends dismiss her bisexuality because she has only dated boys. Hoping to make them believe her, she claims she is dating Ishu, a classmate whose seriousness does not fit easily into Hani’s social world. Ishu has a reason to accept the arrangement: greater popularity could help her become head girl. With clear goals on both sides, pretending to be a couple seems useful enough. But spending time together reveals pressures and vulnerabilities neither girl expected to share, while real feelings complicate their bargain. This school romance follows two Bengali Irish teenagers as they negotiate friendship, family expectations and the limits of seeking acceptance from people who refuse to see them clearly.
