The Frenemy Zone

Olly Smith-Nakamura expected to finish high school in San Francisco, surrounded by the life she knew. Instead, a financial setback sends her family to a small West Virginia town where having two dads makes her conspicuous. Her grandmother sees possibilities in the move; Olly mostly sees reasons to leave. Ariel Hall takes the opposite approach to attention. A softball player nursing a private heartbreak, she keeps her sexuality to herself and has little patience for Olly’s outspoken confidence. Their clashes make friendship seem unlikely, yet attraction keeps complicating the argument. As senior year unfolds, both girls must consider what it means to be honest about themselves—and what they might risk by letting someone new get close.
