Lynn Tanner has grown up in the ruins left after civilization’s collapse. Trusting only her dog and remaining alert to danger have kept her alive in a world where other people can be more threatening than the wildlife. A forced journey through New York City puts those habits under pressure. Dani Wilson, the woman guarding her, is not easily manipulated, and Lynn’s attempts to engineer an escape draw their lives more tightly together. Attraction creates a problem that vigilance alone cannot solve.
