Spinning

For years, Tillie Walden's days revolve around figure skating: early practices, lessons after school and weekends spent competing. The rink provides structure and a refuge from other difficulties, but being good at the sport does not mean she still wants the life it requires. Changing schools, discovering art and falling for her first girlfriend begin to expose the gap between her developing identity and the expectations of the skating world. This graphic memoir follows the slow process of recognizing that a familiar commitment no longer fits. Leaving is not simply a matter of abandoning an activity; it means deciding who Tillie can become beyond something that has organized her childhood.
