Madam President
2001
First Family
The story
Newly elected President Devlyn Marlowe wants an honest account of her administration and chooses professional biographer Lauren Strayer to write it. Lauren suspects the assignment will become political publicity and only agrees after securing editorial independence. Moving into the White House gives her a close view of a demanding presidency and an equally busy family. Devlyn is raising three children while leading the country, and the woman Lauren comes to know is more complex than the public role suggests. Professional curiosity becomes affection, then something neither can easily separate from the unusual circumstances around them. Their relationship develops under the pressures of office, responsibility and constant scrutiny.
