A Bánh Mì for Two
2024
The story
Lan helps her widowed mother run a bánh mì stall in Sài Gòn, but she has lost the desire to update the food blog she once shared with her father. Vietnamese American student Vivi arrives in the city on a study-abroad programme she has concealed from her parents. She hopes to understand the country they left and the family history they rarely discuss. When the two meet, they make an exchange: Lan will help Vivi explore the city and trace her mother’s past, while Vivi encourages Lan to write again. Food, photographs and shared journeys bring them closer, allowing an unexpected romance to develop alongside their changing relationships with family, memory and home.
