The story
Nima Kumara-Clark feels stuck in Bridgeton, where her community seems small and her feelings for a straight friend seem unlikely to lead anywhere. Her mother's departure has left another absence she does not know how to address. Then an encounter at a local festival introduces her to a drag scene she never knew existed nearby. Among performers, new friends and potential love interests, Nima discovers ways of expressing herself that challenge the limits she has taken for granted. Entering this world does not make awkwardness or disappointment disappear. It gives her room to experiment, make mistakes and consider who she might become when she stops expecting rejection before she begins.
