I Am Not Starfire

Mandy is seventeen and tired of being compared with her mother, the dazzling superhero Starfire. She has no powers, little patience for expectations and plans that do not include the college future everyone keeps discussing. A school project with Claire disrupts Mandy’s determination to stay detached: liking someone makes it harder to pretend she wants nothing from the world around her. At home, the distance between mother and daughter continues to grow, until someone from Starfire’s past turns their family conflict into a more immediate danger. This graphic novel follows Mandy’s struggle to define herself beyond her mother’s reputation while deciding what she is willing to risk for the people she loves.
