Her Royal Happiness
2022
The story
Princess Alice is accustomed to public attention, but an encounter with Sara, an outspoken education specialist and single mother, draws a particularly awkward kind. Sara’s opposition to the monarchy gives them little common ground—until Alice needs her help understanding her nephew’s learning difficulties. Working together reveals a connection their public disagreement never suggested. To protect the child’s privacy from an inquisitive press, they agree to pretend they are dating. The arrangement becomes harder to manage when their feelings stop being pretend. Between royal expectations, the Queen’s disapproval, and Sara’s responsibility to her daughter, Alice and Sara must decide whether a private relationship can survive such an intensely public beginning.
