Beyond the Blue

Medical examiner Mei Sharpe has organised her life around facts, routines, and her family after her husband’s death. Detective Morgan Kelly approaches the world with a much brighter disposition, making her an unlikely presence to disrupt Mei’s carefully maintained order. Three encounters over four weeks bring the women into one another’s orbit, with Morgan’s cold-case team based near Mei’s morgue. Their unexpected connection develops into an attraction Mei cannot comfortably file away. Grief and guilt complicate the possibility of another relationship, while Morgan’s openness challenges Mei’s preference for emotional certainty. Their connection asks Mei to consider whether making space for love again must mean surrendering the life and memories she has worked to protect.
