As the Crow Flies

Thirteen-year-old Charlie Lamonte arrives at a Christian hiking camp carrying questions that the adults around her do not seem prepared to answer. As the only Black camper—and a queer girl—she notices the assumptions hidden inside the retreat’s traditions and cheerful language of inclusion. The group’s journey through the wilderness gives her time to think about faith, belonging and who is left out of the version of community being offered. Another camper, Sydney, becomes an important connection as Charlie begins challenging what she hears. This first graphic volume follows the tension between wanting a place inside a tradition and recognizing how much that tradition asks certain people to leave behind.
