Amina Hussain is more comfortable with her academic routine than the idea of performing in a punk band. Lady Parts’ frontwoman Saira sees something in her anyway, bringing her into a group of Muslim women whose different personalities and ambitions do not always fit comfortably together. Music gives them a way to express themselves while raising new questions about friendship, recognition and belonging. Drummer Ayesha’s queer life becomes a substantial part of the ensemble, with the second season exploring her relationship with Laura and her feelings about coming out to her family. The band’s progress is inseparable from what its members discover about themselves along the way.
