Ava wakes in a morgue with a second chance at life and an extraordinary power she never asked to carry. Her new abilities draw her into a secret order of women trained to fight supernatural threats, where faith, loyalty and authority are far less straightforward than they first appear. As Ava learns what the Halo means, her bond with the disciplined Beatrice grows beyond the roles assigned to them. Their relationship becomes explicitly romantic in the second season, giving the action-fantasy story a substantial sapphic thread tied to its protagonist. Battles and conspiracies drive the wider plot, while Ava and Beatrice's developing trust supplies an increasingly personal reason to keep fighting.
