Simone Clark enters the FBI at an age when other people expect her to have finished reinventing herself. Experience as a school counselor gives her ways of understanding people that do not always match the bureau’s preferred approach. Building a place on the team requires professional persistence, but her personal life remains equally capable of surprising her. Meeting Dina introduces a romance that is complicated by family connections as well as the demands of a new career. The procedural places a bisexual woman at its center and lets her pursue affection alongside competence, humor and ambition. Neither the badge nor a relationship removes the need to work out what she wants next.
