Years after a fungal outbreak transforms society, a guarded survivor is tasked with escorting teenager Ellie across a dangerous landscape. Their journey binds them together through choices about survival, responsibility and the people they are willing to protect. The story later follows Ellie into young adulthood, when love, grief and retaliation threaten the community she has found. Ellie’s sexuality is part of her character throughout, and her relationship with Dina becomes a major strand of the second season.
