A circle of lesbian and bisexual friends in Los Angeles navigate careers, friendships and love lives that rarely stay neatly separate. Established couple Bette Porter and Tina Kennard face questions about commitment and family, while Alice, Shane and the women around them pursue relationships with very different expectations. New arrivals and old attachments continually change the balance within the group, turning private decisions into shared consequences. Romance, sex, work and chosen family all have space in this ensemble drama, whose central characters are queer women rather than supporting figures in someone else's story. Its interconnected relationships extend across six seasons, with multiple couples and changing romantic dynamics rather than a single fixed pairing.
