A group of wealthy young American women arrive in nineteenth-century London to enter a marriage market governed by unfamiliar rules. Their money opens doors, but friendship, desire and resistance to social expectations complicate the futures being arranged for them. Among the ensemble, Mabel Elmsworth develops a romantic connection with Honoria Marable, creating a sapphic storyline within a world that assumes marriage to a man is the obvious destination. The series mixes lavish period settings with a contemporary sensibility and several competing romantic arcs. Mabel and Honoria's relationship is meaningful and developed, while remaining one part of the broader story rather than the sole focus of this 2023 television adaptation.
