After a painful breakup forces stylist Mavis Beaumont to start again, she leans on the friends who know both her talent and her ability to make life complicated. Work, desire and self-belief become tangled as she tries to build a career on her own terms in New York. Her friend Marley appears to have confidence to spare, but exploring her sexuality asks her to risk a different kind of vulnerability. When Marley meets the equally driven Daphne, their attraction becomes a developed thread within the comedy's broader chosen-family story. The women have to work out whether two people used to being in control can make room for each other.
