Kara Danvers balances an ordinary working life with the responsibility of protecting National City as Supergirl. Her sister Alex is a crucial ally, bringing practical courage and a fierce commitment to family to the challenges around them. Beginning in the second season, Alex’s discovery of her sexuality becomes an important story of her own. Relationships with Maggie Sawyer and later Kelly Olsen develop across different seasons, giving the superhero ensemble a substantial sapphic thread alongside its battles over belonging, responsibility and what it means to become a hero.
