Sisters Josie and Billie live with their mother Deb in a household where money is scarce and emotional needs rarely meet a helpful response. Each tries to find security through relationships, approval or escape, usually making the situation more uncomfortable in the process. Josie’s attraction to women and her connection with Sid form a continuing part of her attempt to understand what she wants. The series is a dark family comedy with a sapphic co-lead, rather than a romance-led story.
