Joanne treats an amateur softball championship as a serious calling, even when the rest of the Brovaries would be perfectly happy to enjoy a drink and survive another game. Keeping this team focused means negotiating friendships, romantic distractions and wildly different ideas about commitment. Her relationship with Sasha is part of the same unruly community she is trying to coach. The mockumentary format catches the distance between what the players say about themselves and what they actually do on the field. Across its short episodes, the original web series makes space for queer joy, competitive pettiness and the everyday work of belonging to a team.
