Different generations of Bristol teenagers negotiate friendship, desire and the parts of growing up that adults around them often fail to understand. The series changes its central group over time, giving each set of characters its own unstable mix of freedom and vulnerability. In the third and fourth seasons, Emily Fitch and Naomi Campbell’s relationship becomes a major emotional thread, as attraction meets questions of honesty and self-acceptance. Their story is revisited in the final season’s two-part Fire instalment, while the wider series follows many other lives and relationships.
