Sarah Manning witnesses a stranger's death and makes a decision that draws her into an extraordinary discovery: other women share her face, but not her history. Their search for answers exposes a network of surveillance, experimentation and competing interests in their bodies. Among the central clones, scientist Cosima Niehaus works to understand the biology behind their predicament while developing a complicated relationship with Delphine Cormier. Trust and attraction become difficult to separate as the stakes grow. Cosima and Delphine's continuing romance provides a substantial sapphic thread within the science-fiction ensemble. The clones remain distinct people with different identities and relationships, and Cosima's experience should not be treated as interchangeable with theirs.
