Surviving Godzilla’s attack on San Francisco leaves Cate Randa with more than the memory of a destroyed city. A discovery about her father draws her into a wider search for the truth about her family and the organisation known as Monarch. As that investigation crosses borders and generations, the series connects monstrous threats with the human secrets kept around them. Cate’s earlier relationship with Dani forms part of the personal history she carries into the journey, giving the drama an explicitly sapphic principal character. Family trust, survival and inherited choices shape a story in which understanding the people closest to her may be as difficult as understanding the creatures outside.
