At a school for young witches, vampires and werewolves, growing up means learning how to live with powers that can hurt the people closest to you. Josie Saltzman tries to balance kindness, loyalty and her own desires while the supernatural threats around the school become increasingly personal. Her romantic history with Penelope and later relationship with Finch give the ensemble a substantial sapphic thread. Those relationships bring questions of self-worth and independence into a story already crowded with dangerous inheritances. Josie’s love life develops at particular stages of the four-season run, rather than making every bond between the show’s young women an established romantic pairing.
