Bethan is good at inventing a version of home that sounds ordinary. At school in Cardiff, she would rather tell an impressive lie than explain her mother's mental illness or the instability waiting behind the front door. Keeping those worlds apart leaves little room to understand her own feelings, particularly when an attraction to another girl unsettles the identity she presents to her friends. Over two series, her queerness develops alongside a growing determination to have a life she does not need to disguise. Sharp humor and painful family circumstances sit together in a coming-of-age drama that gives Bethan's inner life the center of the story.
