An American mother travelling with her daughter is forced back into a past she believed she had escaped. The CIA knows Jenny was once Anya, a Russian operative with an unusual set of abilities and a history of dangerous assignments. Flashbacks reveal her relationship with Faina, a young woman whose connection to Anya becomes inseparable from the work she is doing. The romance is substantive but threaded through deception and coercive espionage, with difficult consequences. Its qualifying scope is the single season, particularly the Moscow storyline, rather than an uncomplicated present-day love story.
