Sydney Novak is struggling with school, grief and the feeling that her emotions are too large to contain. Then ordinary frustration begins to produce extraordinary effects, leaving her to wonder whether the problem is inside her or in the world around her. Her feelings for best friend Dina become one of the most difficult things to admit, especially while Dina is involved with someone else. The supernatural story and Sydney’s queer self-discovery develop together through the show’s single season. Dina is an important focus of her desire and uncertainty, but the series does not settle them into the kind of established relationship its unresolved possibilities might suggest.
