Life in a Chester village unfolds through overlapping families, friendships and relationships, with personal decisions quickly becoming public business. Across its long run, the serial has given several young women substantial stories about attraction, identity and commitment. Esther and Tilly’s relationship belongs to an earlier generation of the ensemble, while Juliet and Peri’s later romance develops under a different set of pressures. Their experiences are part of a much larger soap world rather than a promise that every episode centers queer women. Marking the relevant years makes it easier to follow these sustained sapphic arcs without losing the context of the friendships and families shaping each character’s choices.
