People who enter a certain small town discover that the road always brings them back. With no dependable route home and dangerous creatures waiting outside after dark, the residents build fragile routines around rules they do not fully understand. Medical student Kristi becomes an essential source of care in a place where practical help can matter as much as an explanation. Her separation from her fiancée Marielle is one of the losses the town has imposed on her. When Marielle arrives in the second season, their reunion brings love, unresolved hurt and new responsibilities into the clinic. Their continuing relationship gives the survival mystery a substantial queer strand amid its larger struggle for answers.
