The space race takes a different course when the Soviet Union reaches the Moon first. In this alternate history, competition continues to transform NASA, politics and the families of the people preparing to leave Earth. Ellen Wilson’s career develops inside that changing world, where professional opportunity comes with expectations about what parts of herself she can safely show. Her relationship with Pam Horton and the pressures of living publicly and privately form a substantial story across the earlier seasons. The series follows an expanding ensemble through successive decades, connecting technical ambition with intimate decisions about love, duty and the kind of future its characters want to help create.
