The Flower household has developed elaborate ways to live around the things its members struggle to say. Musician Amy is finding a language for her own desires while her parents and brother cope with frustrations they do not always understand. Falling for neighbor Abigail makes Amy’s world feel larger, but it also brings her into conflict with familiar expectations at home. The dark comedy allows tenderness and discomfort to occupy the same room, treating mental health, creativity and family attachment as inseparable parts of its characters’ lives. Amy’s queerness remains an important part of that portrait across the series, rather than a problem introduced only to be neatly resolved.
