Bode Donovan hopes that joining a prison firefighting program will shorten his sentence and give him a chance to rebuild his life. The assignment brings him back to his Northern California hometown, where old relationships complicate the dangerous work of fighting wildfires. Around him, professional firefighters and incarcerated crew members must rely on one another when the terrain and conditions turn against them. Eve Edwards is part of that principal ensemble, balancing leadership with questions about family, belonging and love. Her relationship with Francine adds a continuing queer storyline to a drama concerned with responsibility, second chances and the work of deciding who gets to move forward.
