Princess Bean is expected to behave like an ornament to her father’s kingdom, a prospect she finds much less appealing than drinking, escaping and asking inconvenient questions. Adventures with a demon and an elf lead her far beyond the life arranged for her, exposing the secrets beneath Dreamland’s familiar routines. Her relationship with the mermaid Mora becomes an important part of that journey in the later release parts, offering a connection that feels different from the futures other people propose. The fantasy comedy combines unruly jokes with a longer story about family, power and the possibility of choosing a life that is recognizably your own.
