East German Martin Rauch is sent into West Germany as an inexperienced undercover operative during the final years of the Cold War. His assignments require him to navigate unfamiliar freedoms, competing intelligence services and loyalties that become harder to keep separate. Across the Deutschland trilogy, political upheaval repeatedly changes the terms of survival for the people around him. The second instalment, Deutschland 86, includes Lenora Rauch's relationship with South African agent Rose Seithathi. Their connection brings a sapphic strand into the espionage ensemble. This catalogue record represents the wider series under its familiar Deutschland 83 title, with sapphic relevance explicitly limited to the verified second-season relationship.
