At a Florida nail salon, Desna and her coworkers have built a makeshift family around work, ambition and the need to survive. Their connection to a money-laundering operation promises an escape from financial insecurity, then draws them deeper into a dangerous world where loyalty can carry a steep price. Quiet Ann, the salon's watchful protector, has her own desires and vulnerabilities beneath a guarded presence. Her relationship with police detective Arlene makes intimacy especially complicated when the people she loves occupy opposing sides of the law. The crime drama mixes extravagant comedy with the personal costs of trying to gain power without losing a chosen family.
