When young journalist April receives a life-changing diagnosis, her family must adapt without putting all of their own needs on hold. Her younger sister Brenna is still trying to understand who she wants to become. A relationship with classmate Greer gives that search a romantic dimension, bringing attraction, family expectations and uncertainty into a life already under pressure. The women’s story develops within a larger family drama rather than defining every season. Brenna’s later dating choices change, while the experience of loving Greer remains an important part of her queer coming-of-age. Sapphic storyline seasons: Brenna/Greer chiefly S1, with changed dating circumstances in S2. Brenna's broader queer story continues; an unaired S3 proposal is not canon.
