Young telephone operators in 1920s Madrid seek independence while navigating friendship, politics and desire. Carlota’s early exploration of bisexuality forms part of the first-season story. Her partner’s later identity as Óscar, a trans man, is important context: their subsequent relationship should not be presented as a romance between two women.
