Jefferson Pierce returns to a superhero identity he hoped to leave behind, only to find that protecting his family means accepting that his daughters have lives and powers of their own. Anissa becomes Thunder, bringing a strong sense of justice to a city whose institutions do not always protect its people. Her relationship with Grace Choi develops alongside her work, her family responsibilities and the risks of keeping extraordinary secrets. Anissa is a lesbian whose romantic life forms a sustained part of the story rather than a passing detail. Across four seasons, she and Grace must decide how to build a partnership while the world around them keeps demanding more.
