Astrid and Lilly are used to being treated as outsiders at school, but accidentally opening a portal to a monster dimension gives them a much larger problem. The friends become unlikely protectors of their town, tackling creatures whose powers turn familiar teenage anxieties into literal threats. Between missions, Lilly has to reconsider her feelings about Candace, a former friend whose popularity seems to place her in another world. Their connection develops as the girls navigate the pressures of fitting in and the risks of being honest. The supernatural comedy combines a friendship adventure with a substantial sapphic romance, letting its young heroines discover abilities that their classmates have overlooked.
