Vivian has to leave New York City for a quieter suburban home, a change that unsettles both her sense of belonging and her relationship with her girlfriend Aster. A new school brings people who do not know the life she has left behind, giving her choices about how much of herself to reveal and when. Aster must also work out what distance means for a partnership that once felt more secure. The series follows those negotiations alongside family responsibilities, old friendships and new attractions. Its central sapphic relationship is treated as part of an ongoing coming-of-age story rather than a problem solved by a single conversation or declaration.
