Each season of this horror anthology builds a different world of fear, power and people trapped by the rules around them. The clearest qualifying starting point here is the second installment, Asylum, where ambitious journalist Lana Winters investigates Briarcliff and finds herself at the mercy of the institution. Her life as a lesbian, including her relationship with schoolteacher Wendy, is inseparable from the threats she faces and the choices available to her. The setting turns social prejudice into part of the horror rather than treating it as background. Because the anthology changes stories and characters, this sapphic focus should be understood as season-specific.
