The families, businesses and friendships around a Madrid neighborhood form the backdrop to a long-running drama about a country in transition. Within that larger story, Luisita and Amelia find a connection that asks them to weigh private happiness against the expectations of the people around them. Their relationship develops in a period when being visible together carries risks that cannot be solved by affection alone. Dreams of work, independence and a future as a family give their romance a substantial arc across the serial. The sapphic story belongs to specific later seasons of an ensemble that began years earlier, and its historical setting is distinct from the contemporary spin-off centered on the same characters.
