Ambition on the ice and tension behind the scenes connect the athletes, families and employees surrounding an Essen sports business. Chiara is accustomed to measuring herself through competition, but her feelings for Ina introduce questions that cannot be settled by a result. Their attraction develops through hesitation and conflicting expectations, becoming a recurring romantic thread within the serial’s larger world. Work, friendship and personal loyalty repeatedly interfere with the possibility of speaking plainly. The German soap gives this relationship sustained attention in a specific period of its run, making it useful to distinguish the Chiara and Ina episodes from the many other stories that continue around them.
