After leaving prison, Victoria wants a quieter life in the Quebec countryside. A remote sugar shack seems to offer the distance she needs, and the arrival of Florence, her former cellmate and lover, makes the prospect of starting again feel less lonely. Yet the women do not imagine freedom in quite the same way. Vic hopes to retreat from the world, while Flo remains restless and curious about what lies beyond their isolation. Visits from a parole officer and encounters with local people keep interrupting the private refuge they are trying to establish. Denis Côté’s unsettling drama follows two women whose intimacy cannot fully protect them from conflicting desires or the return of experiences they would rather leave behind.
