Nosipho has learned what her family and village expect from a dutiful daughter. Her father’s plans for her marriage promise a future that would satisfy those expectations, but they cannot accommodate the woman she loves. Her relationship with Thenjiwe must survive in secret, under the pressure of a conservative community that treats their desire as a threat to its rules. As the demands around them become harder to evade, both women face choices with consequences beyond their own happiness. Set in rural South Africa, Bonie Sithebe’s drama follows a central lesbian romance through the conflicts between family authority, communal belonging and the possibility of living openly.
