Sarah and Kristen are in a committed relationship, but an accidental suggestion of marriage reveals that they have not imagined the same future. What seems like a small misunderstanding becomes a more difficult conversation about promises, fear and what legal recognition might change between them. Sarah begins examining marriage through interviews with other people, bringing a range of experiences into contact with her own uncertainty. The documentary material sits within a fictional story about a couple whose affection does not automatically resolve their different expectations. As Sarah searches for a more certain answer, the film considers the distance between talking about commitment in the abstract and deciding what it will require in a particular relationship.
