Angela refuses the life her father has arranged for her and will not abandon her love for Sara. In their nineteenth-century Sicilian community, the relationship appears to leave the women no acceptable future together. Angela's mother finds an extraordinary solution through the authority of the church: an official declaration that allows Angela to live publicly as Angelo. The arrangement offers room for their partnership while creating new expectations and demands. Donatella Maiorca's period drama follows two women trying to keep their connection intact within a society determined to define the terms of their lives, turning an apparent escape into a different struggle for autonomy.
