Emma Nolan wants to take her girlfriend Alyssa to the school prom, but the request turns their Indiana town into a battleground over who is allowed to belong. Alyssa faces pressure at home, while Emma becomes the visible target of a decision neither girl should have to defend alone. A group of Broadway performers arrives hoping that a worthy cause will repair their damaged reputations. Their enthusiasm creates as many complications as solutions, forcing them to look beyond the story they want to tell about themselves. Amid musical spectacle and clashing intentions, Emma must decide how to ask for recognition on her own terms. The girls’ relationship remains the emotional reason for a fight that quickly becomes much larger than a dance.
